Two Dates and a Conference

by Vanessa Templeman, NAMPI Vice President

March 18, 2020. The date we never knew would become so important to us. This is the date we have
relied on heavily here in Arizona to show fraudulent application submissions prior to the 1135 waiver
limitations. This notorious date is one we repeatedly go back to when searching for beneficiary
eligibility prior to the PHE and all the changes that came along with it. As I’m sure many of you know,
this is the date CMS clarified that the requirement to maintain eligibility at the same level does not
apply when the customer’s eligibility was approved in error or due to fraud.
March 18, 2020, now more than just a point in time, it’s part of the process check for all beneficiary
cases that helps to triage and determine case pathways.
July 30, 2023, another very important date. We are in our 39th year for NAMPI and our conference is in
Arizona this year! One of the topics I would like to bring more forward is beneficiary program integrity
items. I would love to have some more of our speakers and agenda items integrate beneficiary program
integrity challenges all of us are facing. What beneficiary or eligibility items have your states faced?
What successful cases, policy changes, actions, new partnerships made, or workarounds has your state
accomplished that would be a good NAMPI presentation, webinar, or state conversation talking point?
What can Arizona learn from you?
